Healing Space Completed with Design: Yeoui Roll Park!

Hello!
I'm Ju, a supporter of the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum.

Have you all heard about the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum?

Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, the forum, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is a meaningful event
where we can learn about design policies that improve the quality of life for all citizens
and consider the needs of citizens through design.

Just like the Seoul Design International Forum, the city of Seoul has been actively promoting design policies that consider all citizens.
One such space, "Yeoui Roll Park," which opened in April, is a new type of community sports space
where people of all ages and abilities can come together and enjoy.
It’s a boundary-free space for play, exercise, and relaxation.

Today, I want to introduce Yeoui Roll Park in Yeouido!

Do you know Yeoui Roll Park?

84 Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul

Yeoui Roll Park is located in Yeouido, and it’s very easy to access from the subway.

It’s just an 8-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yeouinaru Station (Line 5).

As I walked along the Han River, I quickly arrived!

Located at the Han River Park in Yeouido, Seoul, Yeoui Roll Park is a unique space that explores the relationship
between the city, nature, and people through design.
It demonstrates the functionality of public spaces through thoughtful design.
Visiting Yeoui Roll Park, I was once again reminded of the value of design.

Yeoui Roll Park is divided into three main zones:

Rolling Zone, Playing Zone, Resting Zone

First, the Rolling Zone is where you can exercise by running on a track using wheeled equipment.

Bicycles, balance bikes, frame running, skateboards, inline skates, wheelchairs, and scooters are the allowed vehicles here.
You can choose between the beginner track (30m) and the regular track (70m), depending on your skill level.

The track features various signs showing entry points and directions, including a bumpy “pumping track” (uneven road) for extra fun.

They’ve also made considerations for wheelchair users by widening the tracks to 2-2.5 meters, and expanding corners to 3.1-3.3 meters.

In the Resting Zone, benches provide comfort while blending seamlessly with the space,
offering both relaxation and aesthetic appeal.

The Playing Zone has a circular space for stretching before a run,
a running track to warm up, and interactive elements like seating hills and floor graphics encouraging jumping exercises for kids.

This design enriches the urban environment and makes the space meaningful for everyone!

I think Yeoui Roll Park is a perfect example of how design and nature can merge harmoniously.

It really reflects the value of Seoul Design, offering a creative and sustainable experience at Han River Park in Yeouido!

Right in front of Yeoui Roll Park, you can see the beautiful Han River.

I hope to see more spaces like Yeoui Roll Park where design connects the city with nature, leaving a deep impression on people.

In addition to Yeoui Roll Park, the city of Seoul is continuously developing design policies that consider the needs of all citizens.

The 2024 Seoul Design International Forum will be held
on November 27th, Wednesday, at DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza) Art Hall 2, starting from 10:45 AM.

You can pre-register on the website until November 22nd (Friday), and note that offline registration may be closed early,
so please don’t miss out!

Thank you!
