SDIF 2024 Main Event <Reflections on Dr. Birgit Mager's Keynote Speech>
Hello! I’m Ju, a supporter of the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum.
This year marked the 5th edition of the Seoul Design International Forum, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, focusing on “Designing the Future of Sustainable Cities.”
I attended the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum held on Wednesday, November 27, at DDP Art Hall 2.
There were many outstanding speakers, but I would like to share my thoughts about Birgit Mager, President of the Service Design Network.
She delivered a presentation on “Service Design for the Desirable Cities – Smart Living through Design” According to her, until the late 20th century, design primarily focused on physical environments, applying to areas such as urban planning, architecture, public facilities, streetlights, and signage.
However!
Entering the 21st century, design has evolved and now shapes and innovates public services. Citizens and public officials collaborate to create better urban living environments together.
In this session, she shared real-life examples of how governments worldwide are adopting design as a strategic agenda and how service design is shaping these processes.
What impressed me the most was how service design leads digital transformation and fosters collaboration to build better cities.
Through this forum, I had the opportunity to listen to presentations from various design experts. The broad range of fields, including service design, public design, and product design, helped expand my perspective.
After each session, there were panel discussions, allowing participants to ask questions and gain deeper insights.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s Seoul Design International Forum!
