City Desgin as Investment in the Future
Welcome, I’m Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul. It is my great pleasure to be here at the Seoul Design International Forum. I would also like to express my gratitude to the speakers. Today, I would like to focus on ‘urban design.’ Design is capable of creating values. And cities must be able to offer values to their residents. When cities have values, they become more competitive and provide a happy, fulfilling life. Therefore, design is a key tool that drives cities’ competitiveness. A city is our legacy for generations to come as they pioneer into the future. Given this, urban design is an investment for the future. -
[Abstract] Design Connecting People, Cities, and the Future: Focusing on Seoul’s Design Policies
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has implemented “people-centered design” that citizens can tangibly experience in their daily lives, and “creative design” that enhances the city’s attractiveness and global competitiveness. Looking ahead, it aims to advance toward “future-oriented design,” opening new pathways to address the pressing global challenges of climate change, digital transformation, and shifting lifestyles. -
The future of smart office, after COVID-19
The spread of the corona virus in 2020 has caused rapid changes in work patterns due to the normalization of working at home. Although there is a realistic limit to building a work environment with a specific concept in an unprepared situation, efforts are being made to respond to these changes in their own way, and each company needs time to compromise to create a safer work environment. It is time for designers to make efforts to find the interface between a space that harmoniously connects people and a space that prioritizes safety. Although it is necessary to change the philosophy of space itself, it is expected that human attempts to challenge the limits will continue. -

Citizen paintings transformed into moving media art, Gwanghwamun Square Hatchyard Media Wall exhibition
- Media art created through citizen participation is on display from 7.1.(Mon), 08~22 daily. - 18 flat images selected from the citizen contest are being presented in a film with motion graphics technology. - Following the spring exhibition, there will be a wealth of ‘Hatch and Soul Friends’ content and citizen participation events for the summer.
